What is Wire Gauge?
The wire gauge is a device which is used to measure the diameter of electric wire and sheet which is used in the sheet metal shop to check the thickness of the sheet. The sheet used in sheet metal shop is called GI sheet(Galvanized Iron). Wire gauge is a measurement of wire diameter. The full name of wire gauge is also called SWG (Standard wire gauge).
HOW TO USE WIRE GAUGE?
The wire gauge has a slot which is used for to measuring the thickness of the sheet. The sheet which we want to measure we need to insert the gauge’s slot. We use to the different slot for checking the different size of the sheet.
Similarly to check the sheet thickness, the wire gauge have circular slot also. This circular gauge is used to check the electric wire diameter. The measurement unit is SWG. SWG = Standard Wire Gauge.
